As expected, Verizon Wireless have launched the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus smart devices.
The Palm Pre Plus features an increase in internal flash memory from 8GB found on the GSM and Sprint versions to 16 GB along with the debut of Verizon’s 3G Mobile Hot Spot tethering add-on for both the Pre and Pixi Plus.
The Pixi Plus features a built-in Wi-Fi radio in contrast to the Sprint version but is otherwise identical in featureset. The Palm Pre Plus is available for $149.99 after $100 mail-in rebate and the Pixi will cost $99.99 after $100 mail-in rebate. Online pricing features instant discounts.
Both devices will require a voice plan at a minimum of $40 per month, $30 device data plan and the Mobile HotSpot application, which will allow the Pre and Pixi to act as a Wi-Fi modem will be offered at a $40 premium alongside the required voice and data plans. Messaging is not included in the data or voice plans and is being sold as a separate add-on.
Verizon is also offering a buy-one-get-one free promotion until February 14 for the Pre and Pixi Plus, with interested customers buying a Palm Pre or Pixi Plus receiving a second Pixi Plus for free after mail in rebate.
One can only speculate what Sprint will do to counter this announcement. From what I’ve been hearing, the Pre Plus is a much better device than the original Pre (e.g. better keypad, sturdier – less oreo effect, more memory). Not sure how Sprint can charge the same price for their version fo the Pre. Although, Sprint’s plans are way cheaper, so the difference pays for itself. The problem is, I can’t (at least not me) open up a Pre that I buy from Sprint and upgrade it to make it the same as the Verizon one. Hmmm…temporary business opportunity for the real techies out there until Sprint figures this out…
Hey phone enthusaist, why don’t you stick your Prenis up your sphincter! Why did you have to post a link to staples in your response? You are a dip=s*it
[…] is coming out with some kind of smart phone these days. You have the Blackberry, Nexus One, and now Verizon has released it’s Palm Pre Plus. There’s a lot of competition and it’s only a matter time before another mobile company […]
deJesus,
Why do you have an ad for cell phones in your post? The answer is that Phone News attaches an ad to a word within our posts. No one chooses it, it just happens.
Were you dropped on your head at birth?
Hey Jesus, I need you to come home and massage your mom’s feet. She’s sore from all the asskicking she had to give you last night.
Anyways, who cares if a mobile phone has 8GB or 16GB, it’s not like it’s gonna do anything for me that my laptop/console/desktop/camera won’t do for me. Oh wait, of course, I always store those 10GB of movies on my phone so I can watch them in a subway while life is passing by outside. These phones try to do everything but end up just doing everything wrong. Like annihilating hand to hand combat, who can fight while he’s texting.
Yeah.I don’t think that paying an extra $30/month to have extra memory is worth it. Not to mention that this doesn’t include nav or unlimited calling to any mobile phone. I would buy the pre or pixi on sprint anytime over verizons just because of what you get for the price.
@dejesus
are you just plain dumb? There are automatic ads inserted into this forum like eirrom mentioned. Think before you post and if you still decided to post then at least make it about the cell phone industry and not just some stupid remark.
FWIW, Pre Plus also has double the RAM as well. Nevertheless, there are rumors that not only will AT&T get GSM Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, but that Sprint will have the next device in June-July.
Exactly. There are plenty of phones out there to choose from. Its all about what service works best and at what cost.
