Verizon has announced that it has completed the acquisition of the Centennial Communications network and related assets from AT&T, which was a divestiture ordered by the FCC as a condition of purchase approval for Centennial Communications.
The Verizon acquisition includes spectrum licenses and 117,000 current customers across Lafayette, Beauregard, Iberville and West Feliciana, LA., as well as Claiborne and Copiah, MS. The carrier confirms that it will continue to operate the brand and network while it works to transition it from GSM to CDMA, with 3G service being rolled out on a market by market basis. Customers will also be contacted in the future regarding how to switch phones when the network transition is completed.
