Verizon EOL List Leaks, Palm Pre Plus End Of Life in October

Verizon’s End of Life device lists has been leaked and has revealed the firm discontinuation dates for a variety of devices, including recent releases such as the Droid 2 and Droid X, along with other older devices such as the Palm Pixi and Pre Plus.

The aforementioned Palm devices are slated to be discontinued on March 31st 2011 for the Pixi Plus and October 21st for the Pre Plus, suggesting that the Pre will be replaced with new hardware this year. While the updated Pre Plus is based on 20 month old hardware and has been generally well-received, the later discontinuation date for the Pixi Plus suggests that Verizon will be keeping the Pixi as its free webOS offering for the foreseeable future.

On the BlackBerry end, the Storm2 will be discontinued on October 10th, with its replacement possibly coming in the form of the CDMA version of the Torch.  The Curve 2 will be discontinued next month on the 16th. On the Windows Mobile end, the LG Fathom, Samsung Omnia 2 Ozone and Imagio will all be discontinued on March 31st of next year, suggesting an even earlier timeframe of the end of carrier support for Windows Mobile 6.5. 

Concerning Android, the Droid 2, X, LG Ally and Incredible will also be discontinued on March 31st of next year, suggesting a continual 9-12 month cycle for new hardware from the manufacturers. Concerning the March 31st date itself, the beginning of April may herald the first wave of devices currently in development such as Dell’s Thunder and Lightning, the first wave of Windows Phone 7 devices from other manufacturers, Android 3.0 based smart devices, and an expanded rollout of LTE service outside of the markets launching later this year.
