A report from the Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Verizon Wireless will launch its first LTE smartphone next February, following statements from current CEO Ivan Seidenberg along with confirmation that the carrier’s forthcoming LTE network has attracted the interest of iPhone manufacturer Apple, following the recent retail launch of the iPad and forthcoming launch of the iPhone.
Verizon is currently preparing to roll out its LTE network across 38 markets, with the first markets confirmed for launch in West Virginia. The carrier is promising speeds of up to 12Mbps down and 5mbps up with pricing expected to resemble current offerings.
As an interesting note, the WSJ story also makes reference to the recently launched $15/150MB data plan as a holiday promotion, suggesting that the offering may be replaced by yet another service plan early next year.
