As expected, Verizon has announced its AWS-based XLTE network overlay launching in select markets today. The overlay uses spectrum purchased from cable companies in 2012 to shore up the capacity issues with the primary 700 MHz C Block network, primarily in urban areas. The following phones are currently compatible with the XLTE overlay with more being released during the year:
- 2013 Droid series (MAXX, MINI, etc) and Moto X
- Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, ATIV SE, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Note Pro, Note 10.1 2014,
- Nokia Lumia Icon
- LG G2, Lucid 3, G Pad 8.3 LTE
- HTC One M8, One Max
- Apple iPhone 5s, 5c, iPad Mini with Retina Display, iPad Air
- Blackberry Z30 and Q10
Verizon has also released a master list of all of the current XLTE markets, with further expansion during the year.
