After months of speculation, Verizon has added international support to its VZNavigator GPS solution inintially for the BlackBerry Storm with more devices to be supported later this year.
VZNavigator Global contains support for the US, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, with additional countries to be added later this year, either English or Spanish as the default language, and miles or kilometers to mark distances.
The application also uses Local Search to find restaurants, gas stations, banks/ATMs and other points of interest.
The application is available for $19.99 per month on top of a suggested Unlimited Global Email plan at $64.99 or $69.99 per month with or without a companion voice plan.
The really story should be an expose on Verizon’s monpolistic practice of disallowing location-based application developers to utilized the GPS hardware on devices like Samsung Saga, et al. I know there are plenty of lawyers who can steer a class action law suit.
When will phone news start doing in depth meaningful stories to the people who purchase handsets that are purposely disabled?
