Verizon, one of the few carriers that has steadfastly refused to offer service discounts for those that brought or purchased their own compatible devices outright is set to make that long-desired change beginning on April 17th when it opens up its More Everything plan slate to those that are out of contract and month to month as well as those that purchase or bring their own compatible devices for activation on the plan slate. In addition, those customers on Verizon’s Edge early upgrade program will be able to take advantage of the new discounts on the More Everything plan slate launching on that date, which center on reduced network access fees for smartphones.
The changes work as such: existing customers on month-to-month service who move to a More Everything plan and choose plans with 8 GB of data access or lower will be able to add a smartphone for $30 per month, saving $10 per month from the normal $40 monthly device access rate, and customers who choose plans with 10 GB of data access or higher can add a smartphone for $15 per month, saving $25 from that access rate, with the $30 and $15 charges being the monthly access fees per smartphone before factoring in the service plan. The new rates will also apply to those that bring their own Verizon smartphones for activation that were either purchased outright or previously activated on other plans.
Verizon’s More Everything plans include unlimited voice and messaging, unlimited international text messaging, 25 GB of cloud storage per line, and three months of both the International Long Distance Value Plan and FamilyBase service for free. These changes also apply to families as a family with four smartphones who either switch from month to month service, are on the Verizon Edge program, or bring their own phones will now pay $160 a month for unlimited voice, messaging and 10GB of data, matching AT&T’s currently heavily promoted offering for families and business.
Verizon is also currently offering 1 GB of extra data per month to customers who activate a tablet on a More Everything plan as long as the tablet remains on the account, in a bid to compete with T-Mobile’s recent changes to drive tablet sales and data usage. It costs $10 per month to add a tablet on a More Everything plan and shares data from the More Everything data plan otherwise.
I’m glad Verizon has started to pay catchup. Their inability to update their plans forced me to AT&T after almost 8 years. After I switched I found out that AT&T’s coverage and data speeds are FAR superior in my area. Now I can buy a phone that doesn’t have Verizon bloatware and logo on it.
In ask seriousness I’m glad they made me switch, I actually don’t mind paying my wireless bill each month with so much value my plan. The free visual voicemail is super nice on AT&T too.
Do not sign up with Verizon, if you care anything at all about being treated half way human post the point of sale. Once the sales person has collected their commission from your sale, they will literally run to the back part if their stores to avoid having to answer any questions that you may have concerning any equipment or plans that you paid for and will continue to pay for. The worst customer service I have ever experienced.
