Mobile browser developer TorchMobile has announced on its front page that it has been acquired by Research In Motion.
TorchMobile is known for its nascent Iris mobile web browser for Windows Mobile and embedded Linux platforms, based on WebKit and developed with support for multimedia in mind along with desktop class features such as tabbed browsing, Flash support and preliminary HTML5 support.
This follows RIM’s plans to integrate Flash and Microsoft Silverlight support along with improved functionality into its venerable embedded browser next year.
