SPI Labs: More Progress on PPC-6600 & EV-DO
A brief follow-up to the recent coverage of the PPC-6600 and its potential support for EV-DO. We have been able to determine that the main reason that our original update did not work was Sprint’s EV-DO PRL. It appears that the 20007 PRL is very targeted for data card devices. Modified versions of the 20007 […]
Sprint: PRL 10027 Released
Sprint has issued PRL 10027 for over-the-air updating. Call *2 and ask to be flagged for the update. This is not to be confused with the 20007 PRL for EV-DO data devices. Sprint initially (and incorrectly) referred to the 20007 PRL as version 10027. PRL 10027 is for non-EV devices (in other words, all devices […]
SPI Labs: PPC-6600 Unofficial EV-DO Update *Updated Again*
Update 2: Well folks, while the update appears to be successful, it doesn’t work. We couldn’t tell when we made the update, because we simply didn’t know where EV-DO was available to test the update. Meaning, that while the update does work, and shows the PPC-6600 supports EV-DO (by accepting an EV-DO PRL properly), it […]
Sprint: EV-DO Goes Live Tomorrow *Updated*
Update: Inital reports have been incorrect, PRL 10027 has not been released. Instead, PRL 20007 was released for EV-DO only devices. What is more troubling is that Sprint has informed some technicians not to install this PRL on the PPC-6600 Series. Some have even gone as far as to report that the PPC-6600 will never […]
Cracking The Qualcomm Easter Egg: Part 2
Same rules as the last part apply, generalizations will be made, engineers will have their toes stepped on, you are welcomed to nit pick in the forums. It has to be good to be Qualcomm today, sitting on the top of the CDMA world watching everyone knock on their door, converting to CDMA, and having […]
Cracking The Qualcomm Easter Egg: Part 1
How We Got to Where We Are This is a history lesson, it is not meant to break new information, but to give a quick crash course in acronyms that far too many readers do not understand. If you know what AMPS, CDMA, GSM, iDEN, TDMA, UMTS, HSDPA, and EV-DO are, feel free to skip […]
Sprint: AirCard 580 EV-DO Released
Sprint has announced today that they are making available to business customers the Sprint version of the EV-DO enabled Sierra AirCard 580. Sprint also stated that this does not mark the launch of EV-DO on their network, simply that they are making the card available now to prepare customers to use EV-DO when it is […]
Sprint: WiMAX A Preliminary Go
While others are speculating, we’re confirming. One of the primary goals of Sprint Nextel will be to deploy WiMAX. WiMAX will serve in a complimentary role to CDMA, offering fixed wireless internet access in high-broadband speeds, leaving CDMA (1x EV, and eventually 3x) for lower-broadband speeds. Interactions between the two will mostly be conducted through […]
Verizon: VCast With Some Intelligence
We haven’t reported on VCast since its launch, for multiple reasons. It’s a little long winded, takes some to task, but in the end is at least an informative read on how the media works, and how VCast works… you might even learn something when you’re done reading it.
Apple Deploys Bluetooth 2.0
Apple as we previously stated has launched Bluetooth 2.0. Supporting EDR (Enhanced Data Rates), the new PowerBook G4 series can support the theoretical maximum transmission rate of EV-DO, at three megabits per second (EV-DO’s theoretical maximum is 2.4 Mbps).
