T-Mobile Introduces The “UnContract” Pledge, Makes Current Promotions Permanent

By Humberto Saabedra on March 18, 2015

T-Mobile-Uncarrier-Uncontract-SimpleChoiceDuring its UnCarrier event for businesses, T-Mobile made two key changes for consumers in the “UnContract” pledge to current and new customers as well as an adjustment to last year’s wildly popular “Contract Freedom” promotion, now known as “Carrier Freedom”.

The UnContract pledge states that T-Mobile will make current Simple Choice promotional plans permanent for current customers on existing Simple Choice promotional plans such as the 4 lines for $100 with up to 10 GB of 4G LTE data plan, can keep them for as long as they’re T-Mobile customers with no price increases, with the possibility of lower prices in the future.

Customers on plans with unlimited data will lock in their current rate for 2 years and customers will be able to switch to new promotional plans, with the pledge remaining valid. The pledge goes into effect on Sunday, March 22nd.

“Carrier Freedom” is both an adjustment of the carrier’s previous “Contract Freedom” promotion to draw customers away from competitors and a signal to carriers that their attempts to compete aren’t working as effectively as intended. T-Mobile will now cover outstanding phone or tablet payments for those who bought their device on AT&T Next, Verizon Edge or other carrier equipment installment plans or leasing plans. A new customer simply ports their number to one of T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plans,  trades in their smartphone or tablet and buys one of the carrier’s smartphones.

Customers get the trade-in value immediately, and a prepaid card with the balance of additional outstanding phone payments after the trade-in value, when they submit the previous carrier’s bill to T-Mobile up to $650 total per line on up to 10 lines total.  Businesses with more than 10 lines also can also take advantage of Carrier Freedom, with bill credits up to $100 per line after the 10th line, without the prepaid card offer extended to consumers.
