T-Mobile and Univision Launch New MVNO In Univision Mobile

By Humberto Saabedra on May 15, 2014

univisionmobilelogoSpanish media conglomerate Univision and T-Mobile have announced the launch of a new branded MVNO targeted toward Spanish-speaking US consumers in Univision Mobile, which will be powered by T-Mobile’s network and be made available nationwide as well as Puerto Rico. The intention behind the new MVNO is to offer wireless service to the Spanish-speaking Hispanic/Latino populace under a familiar brand while Univision will be able to leverage its streaming media apps as well as offer various levels of content via a customized mobile portal.

t-mobile-univision-mobileThe service will offer a slate of devices as well as a BYOD option with three service plans, all with international messaging included as well as 100 voice minutes to landlines or mobiles at no additional charge. The plan slate consists of a $30 plan that offers unlimited monthly voice and messaging, a $45 plan with 2.5GB of 3G data access and bundled access to Univision’s UForia music streaming app, with a third plan at $55 per month that includes 2.5GB of 4G data access and bundled access to both the UForia and UVideos streaming music/video apps that do not count against the monthly data limits on either plan.

However, unlike other MVNOs, the above plans do not include all taxes and fees, which means that the monthly rates will be subject to variable amounts of taxes and fees depending on location, whereas T-Mobile brand MetroPCS has experienced massive success with the Hispanic/Latino market owing to its predictable monthly rates with all taxes and fees included.

The service will also feature additional monthly add-ons that will allow unlimited international calling to landlines as well as additional voice buckets to call mobiles in Mexico and 70 additional countries. The service will be available on Monday May 19th through 1,800 Walmart locations as well as 6,000 independent dealers serving heavily Hispanic/Latino areas in the US.
