Sprint today launched the first city with EV-DO Revision A. San Diego, CA is the first city in America to receive the new network. With upload speeds reaching 1.8 mbps, and downlink speeds spiking at 3.1 mbps, EV-DO Rev A promises to usher in new applications for EV-DO technology.
Specifically, Sprint has plans to tap EV-DO Rev A to deploy live Video Calling, as well as QChat, Sprint’s future PTT platform which will be used to phase out Nextel Walkie Talkie (formerly Direct Connect).
Sprint has plans to launch in 15 other cities by the end of 2006, with the rest of the existing EV-DO footprint to be updated next year. Click Read More for a list of cities.
