Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III To Receive Jelly Bean Update Later Today

Not long after Samsung first confirmed future availability of Android Jelly Bean for North American carrier variants of the flagship smartphone, Sprint is set to be the first carrier to roll out its long-awaited update, with an OTA rollout scheduled to begin today according to the above screenshot.

The update will push the software to version L710VPALJ7 and be rolled out over several weeks with the baseband being updated to IMM76D.L710VPALJ7. Key updates include fixes for Exchange email functionality and LTE improvements and fixes along with all of the key improvements and fixes found in Android Jelly Bean such as Google Now and Project Butter performance enhancements for the user interface.

This makes the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S III one of the first North American carrier variants to be updated to the operating system since its release in July with the launch of the Nexus 7. Android 4.2, also known as Key Lime Pie is expected to be announced during Google’s own planned special event being held on Friday, where the new operating system is expected to make its debut along with the next Nexus smartphone in the LG-designed and manufactured Nexus 4

Samsung have yet to confirm the availability of Jelly Bean for other North American carriers and continually stress that the updates are now in the hands of carriers to handle and manage, which is why they refuse to give solid timetables for each carrier update to Jelly Bean for each Galaxy S III variant, as each carrier has their own testing and deployment schedules in place, some more extensive than others.
