Sprint has officially announced the forthcoming launch of the long-awaited Motorola i1 Android-based smart device for the Nextel division, set for Sunday July 25th online and via Telesales for $199.99 after new 2 year agreement before an additional $50 mail in rebate, bringing the total to $149.99. Retail sales will begin on August 8th as previously reported.
The i1 features a hybrid Android 1.5 kernel with features found in the latest release in 2.2 in order to allow for push to talk support along with other major features.
Specifications consist of a 3.1 inch HVGA resolution capacitive touch display, Wi-Fi radio for access to the Android Market, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, microSDHC expansion slot, speakerphone and a 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and video capture.

This phone looks decent but they should have released it with a faster processor and 2.1. I don’t think it makes sense to release a phone like this when you can get the hero or the new moment. Unless people with nextel iden want it just for push to talk and have android just in case.
I’m probably one of the few that misses PTT since I moved to Android. However iDEN data speeds would drive me crazy.
With Sprint releasing the V950e, maybe they’ll change their mind on a new QChat Android phone. Or even some kind of 4G PowerSource Android phone.
Hey, a man can dream!
