Sprint Announces New WeGo Phone And Plan For Children And Parents

By Humberto Saabedra on April 11, 2014

In its efforts to provide a wide variety of products, Sprint has announced a new phone and service meant for both children and parents in WeGo,  which is paired with location tracking and parental controls for a parents peace of mind. The WeGo phone has an LCD screen, a single button on the front, and volume buttons on the side that double as directional buttons for the user interface while the device is rugged and water resistant.

Sprint WeGoUsing the companion online portal for the WeGo, parents have full control over the device and its use including  storing up to 20 contacts and parents can also determine when those contacts can call or message the WeGo, as well as when the child can make outgoing calls or send one of several pre-determined text messages to the pre-selected contacts.

The WeGo service also offers notifications that can be sent to parents if the phone has a low battery, is powered down, if the panic button is activated, or if the device exceeds a certain speed via GPS and parents are also able to pinpoint the WeGo on a map and track its location at scheduled intervals or continuously. The phone also offers easy access to 911 emergency services and a loud alarm that sounds when the ripcord/lanyard is pulled.

The service plan for WeGo costs $10 per month and it includes 1,000 voice minutes and 1,000 text messages, but will not be compatible with Sprint’s Framily Plan and requires a standard account to be activated. The phone will cost $120 with a contract or $5 per month via Sprint’s installment plan.
