Update: Following the joint Sprint/T-Mobile announcement, Cingular late yesterday announced that they had officially launched their MMS interoperability, with all nationwide carriers except Nextel, matching Sprint’s level of national carrier coverage which it already has with Picture Mail Stage 3.
Sprint today announced a partnership with T-Mobile to provide cross-carrier MMS services. Operated through Verisign’s Lightsurf GX-MMS service, it extends Sprint’s Picture Mail service to allow customers to share pictures with T-Mobile customers.
In its Press Release, Sprint stated:
“Sprint continuously looks for ways to enhance Sprint PCS Picture Mail service to make it easier and more convenient for its customers to share, print, store, manage and display digital images… Picture sharing interoperability with T-Mobile helps our customers stay better connected to their friends and family.”
