After almost two years, Clearwire and Sprint have jointly rolled out 4G WiMax broadband service to the city of San Francisco and surrounding cities. This also follows months of beauracratic wrangling with the San Francisco Planning Commission.
The coverage area extends from the San Francisco Bay and Oakland to South Bay including San Jose and the 680 corridor from Concord to Pleasanton. Along with the launch of service, new customers who sign up online will receive a 50% discount on their service plan for the first two months, with overnight shipping included and no activation fee.
