Sony Ericsson today announced that their P990 would be the first Sony Ericsson device to support Sony’s LocationFree platform. LocationFree is Sony’s answer to other placeshifting offerings, such as Slingbox and Orb. LocationFree clients are already available for PC and PSP, but the P990 marks the first cell phone to be able to natively access LocationFree with support.
Like other LocationFree clients, and unlike clients from Slingbox, the P990 LocationFree client is a free download from Sony Ericsson’s support web site. It is not known at this time if the client can be used on other UIQ devices, though such an act would not be supported by Sony Ericsson.
