During its press event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today, Sony Ericsson has confirmed the first details of the forthcoming Xperia Play gaming-oriented Android smartphone along with the confirmation of a March launch.
The Xperia Play features a 4 inch capacitive touch display, 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 Scorpion processor with Adreno 205 GPU, 1GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, a microSDHC slot along with a 5.1 megapixel camera with flash and 720p video capture.
The confirmation of a launch on Verizon follows last Friday’s leaked confirmation via third-party retailer Wirefly, while the Verizon launch also signals a new partnership with the carrier and a return to CDMA device development for Sony Ericsson.
Update: Verizon has confirmed to National Public Radio via the Hourly News Summary that the Xperia Play will be launched on the carrier in April.
