While the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi is currently under a sales embargo owing to an injunction won by Apple, current owners of the tablet before it was pulled from the US market will be able to update their units to Android Ice Cream Sandwich starting today either via Wi-Fi OTA or via the Kies updater if over the wire updates are preferred.
The update is listed by Samsung as update IMM76D. While the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi is a year old and has already been superseded by the Galaxy Tab 2, among other variants, the fact that the tablet got the update is a pleasant surprise, owing to the relative lack of ICS updates for tablets of the same vintage with similar specs and calls into question other manufacturers and their seeming lack of updates for their respective hardware, with HTC being the most obvious example.
Samsung and Verizon also have yet to confirm whether the LTE variant will be updated along the same lines, as carrier branded tablets are typically subject to forced obsolescence in order to make way for newer faster tablets.
