Following the announcement of the Galaxy Alpha yesterday, Samsung has detailed the chipset that powers the phone which will be the newest chipset in its Exynos series. The 5430 is a part of the Exynos 5 Octa family and uses a big.LITTLE chip configuration with additional 4+4 bridging and two banks of four chips each. One bank uses four ARM Cortex A15s at 1.8GHz for demanding applications, and the other bank uses four ARM Cortex A7s at 1.3GHz for low-power use.
According to Samsung, the Exynos 5430 is its first mobile processor built using a 20nm low-power High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) manufacturing process. Samsung also claims this delivers a boost in performance while also reducing power consumption needs by 25% compared to its previous 28nm process chips. The 5430 is also capable of powering WQHD (2560 x 1440) and WQXGA (2560 x 1600) displays as well as supporting a range of high-definition media capture and playback features in devices. The chipset will debut with the release of the Alpha in September.
