Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has started buying chipsets from German chipmakerInfineon.
This move is said to reduce Samsung’s dependency on Qualcomm Inc, who presently hold patents for code division multiple access technology for chipsets used in 3G mobile phones.
Samsung’s spokesperson Kwak Bum-joon said that they have been looking to expand parts supply sources and Infineon is very cost competitive. Kwak came forward with this statement after the news that Samsung have developed a phone model which has Infineon’s chipsets, and have exported the model to Europe since early this month.
Infineon is offering chipsets 20 percent cheaper then Qualcomm’s, as well as matching Qualcomm in quality.

I actually meant Partner as in ‘getting together’ or ‘joining forces’. I’m waiting to see if the battery consumption will be better dealt with or not.
