RIM Announces BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 with BlackBerry 7

By Humberto Saabedra on May 2, 2011

BlackBerry Bold 9900This morning during the first day of its BlackBerry World developer conference, beleaguered manufacturer RIM officially unveiled its next handset lineup up in the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930. The Bold 9900 will be the first BlackBerry with built-in hardware support for NFC as well as featuring a capacitive touch display along with its iconic keyboard.

The phone will also be the first BlackBerry device to be powered by Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor paired with the Adreno 220 GPU for improved performance, a first for the BlackBerry line up. The BlackBerry 9900 features support for HSPA+ while the 9930 is a dual-mode CDMA/GSM model with support for international roaming.

Major upgrades in hardware will also signal the next major change to the BlackBerry OS in BlackBerry 7, which features voice control and search for device and web known as Universal Search, HTML5 Video support along with BlackBerry Balance, a fine-tuned profile control system similar to the profile controls implemented by Nokia in recent E Series devices for personal and business information. The new Bold series will be released later this Summer with pricing yet to be confirmed.
