In separate press releases this morning RIM and Verizon Wireless have announced the pending launch of the BlackBerry 9530 which is now branded Storm.
The device is the first touch display BlackBerry in RIM’s lineup and features a new type of display technology known as ClickThrough that makes the entire glass-front display act like a button, ensuring positive feedback when making selections or typing.Â
The device features a 3.0 inch 480×360 HVGA resolution display, tri-mode CDMA 1xEVDO Rev. A, quadband GSM/EDGE, and 2100MHz HSDPA radio with support for international roaming via Vodafone networks around the world, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, 3.5mm headphone jack, 1GB of internal memory with additional expansion possible through a microSDHC expansion slot, media player with iTunes sync capability, GPS transceiver, microUSB port, and a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and video recorder.
The device is expected to be simultaneously available next month on Verizon and in Europe/Australia through Vodafone.
I can’t wait to get a hold of this one. So excited.
Curious? What is the Quadband GSM for? Is Verizon planning on using AT&T or T-Mobile for voice/data domestic roaming too?
Nope. The GSM/W-CDMA radio is locked to Vodafone for international roaming.
I know that, but the US version includes the 850/1900 MHz bands which are used in North America primarily. That’s why I was confused.
The GSM/EDGE bands in question are also used in rural Australia and New Zealand as well as in Latin America, just to provide further clarification.
Cannot wait until this comes available on the Sprint network — looks like I found an upgrade for by 8830
Good things are worth waiting for (This device and my simply everything plan? Talk about your win-win)
🙂
This is going to be my first Touch Phone and I am going to enjoy every moment with it, I like the Iphone however I believe in RIM when it comes to PDA’s. The Iphone is great, but Blackberry stole the show along time ago.
C’mon Sprint!
Is this phone going to be available for T-Mobile soon?
i Agree It Does To Be Available For T-Mobile
