Republic Wireless has quietly confirmed that it will launch the Motorola Moto G for use on its Wi-Fi first wireless service starting tomorrow Thursday April 17th. In contrast to Boost Mobile and Verizon who are only offering the 8GB model, Republic Wireless will be offering both the 8GB and 16GB models for $149 and $179 respectively. The service is notable for being of the only carriers in the US to offer both versions of the popular Android smartphone at slight discounts to their unlocked versions.
The Moto G is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and has a 2,070mAh battery. It also includes a 5.0 megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The device will ship on Republic Wireless with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and also features removable backplates, which can be interchanged for slight customization.
Currently, Republic Wireless is also offering the Moto X, with the Moto G meant to be the less expensive option and in related news, the service is now allowing reactivations of previously activated Motorola Defy XT smartphones after being previously disallowed due to the initially developing nature of its service and the extensive firmware modifications required for the device, which meant that device reactivation wasn’t possible at the launch of the first phase of the company if it was necessary.
With the advent of reactivations for the Defy XT, the Moto X and forthcoming Moto G, the service is at a level where the service provider is able to act more like a conventional virtual operator than in the past, with more work being done to enable more common services, such as short code and SMS to email support, which are planned for future rollouts.
Wrong. The 16GB version of the Moto G will be $179 not $189 as you’re reporting. I’m a long time customer of RW and their phones and service are awesome and get better every day! They really do things differently than most companies and focus on the customer.
It’s $179 for the 16 GB version
Where is republic wireless and what r the plans like ::)
It’s based in Raleigh, NC. The plans are great. The base option is wifi only unlimited everything for $5 a month, then $10 a month for unlimited texting and calling outside of wifi, then $25 a month for unlimited everything with 3G, then for the Moto X can use 4G unlimited everything for $40 a month. Personally, I have Unlimited everything (3G only) on my Moto X for $25 a month. If you decide to go with RW, you can save $20 with this referral link.
I made the switch from Verizon to Republic in January. So far, so good. I wrote a review on my blog. One word of caution: If you have an iPhone, TURN OFF IMESSAGE before selling your phone. This caused some headaches when I switched to the Moto X, an Android. Some iPhone friends of mine had trouble texting with me for a bit. It’s a known issue, but Apple doesn’t seem in any hurry to fix it.
