Qualcomm has announced in a press release that it has opened up and released its BREW Mobile Platform SDK to all developers for no charge.
The SDK will allow for complete development of BREW applications, widgets, and also features complete integration with Adobe Flash for development of user interfaces, widgets, streaming media, and other types of applications for both mobile phones and an increasing number of multimedia devices.
This follows the news that Qualcomm and Adobe have agreed to the formation of a new working group known as the Open Screen Project in order to enable developers to write one Flash application and have it run on any Flash enabled device.
Since the app BREW does that mean it’s only for vzw, alltell and the cell?
For the most part. Sprint uses BREW to power their One Click interface, it may help allow content providers inject flash into Sprint’s (now mandatory and can’t-be-disabled-easily) interface.
I could see Sprint using Flash to support themes in One Click, since MI-UI is now dead.
What’s MI UI
MI-UI was Sprint’s earlier attempt at unifying the user interface while still allowing for things like custom themes and widgets. While it still used BREW, it wasn’t as intrusive and you could still revert to the default manufacturer user interface.
