Palm OS to be Renamed into Garnet OS

Access Co, owners of Palm OS and the upcoming Access Linux Platform (ALP) have announced this week that they are re-naming the existing Palm OS platform. Palm OS will become Garnet OS (Garnet is the current code-name for the current version of Palm OS). Access is taking this measure to distance themselves from Palm, Inc.

This comes as Palm and Access have strained relations over the platform. Garnet has become increasingly old, and was supposed to be surpassed with Access Linux Platform. Access has struggled with delivering the platform, forcing Palm to re-license Garnet to make changes in order to keep the platform alive.
