The long-rumored Nvidia Shield Tablet has had its specifications and pricing confirmed ahead of the official announcement on Tuesday. The tablet will serve as a showcase for Nvidia’s Tegra K1 chipset as well as being another attempt at Android tablet hardware after its last attempt in the reference Tegra Note tablet, which was manufactured by multiple OEMs. The Shield Tablet is said to feature the following specifications:

  • Tegra K1 Processor (192 core Kepler GPU, 2.2 GHz Quad Core A15 CPU)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 8-inch Full HD IPS display (1920×1200)
  • Front facing stereo speakers and dual bass reflex port
  • 4K Ultra-HD ready
  • Micro SD slot
  • Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, dual-band a/b/g/n WiFI
  • Integrated Stylus
  • 19.75 WHr battery (up to 10-hours HD video playback)

The tablet will be released in two versions starting at $299 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model or $399 for the 32GB LTE model, while Nvidia will also be offering optional accessories in the new SHIELD Wireless Controller for $59.99 and the SHIELD cover for $39.99. The Shield Tablet will be released first in the US on July 29th and Europe on August 14th.

With the future launch of the tablet, it confirms previous reports regarding Nvidia’s retreat from offering its chips to mobile OEMs in favor of using them as a showcase for its experience in high-performance gaming and the above pricing also reflects just how competitive the Android tablet market has become in the past 24 months.
