Motorola has announced that Nokia Siemens Networks has agreed to purchase some of Motorola’s network business units for $1.2 billion in cash. The deal includes the purchase of Motorola’s CDMA technology and patents along with business relationships with 50 other CDMA, GSM, WCDMA, WiMax and LTE vendors including China Mobile, Clearwire, KDDI, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone.
Motorola will retain its iDEN business as its largest customers in Sprint and Boost Mobile are its largest customers, with the deal expected to close by the end of the year and speeding up the split of Motorola into two separate, publicly traded divisions.
