Nokia has announced its newest update for the Verizon Lumia 822, which is the Finnish manufacturer’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone for the carrier. The update is being staged and rolled out in phases, with the rollout beginning today. The update features the following fixes, updates and changes:

- More efficient Messaging, allowing you to save draft messages, edit forwarded multimedia messages, select multiple recipients at once, and respond to a call with a text message
- Improved performance, audio quality, and connection stability for Bluetooth
- Improved compatibility, stability, and performance for micro-SD card
- Improved battery level metering
- Improved stability, speed, and functionality for the camera
- Can now better control data costs: you can prevent automatic fallback from a Wi-Fi network to a mobile data network and keep Wi-Fi always on to off-load network usage to Wi-Fi
- Performance and stability improvements
The update pushes the software version to SW 1532.5951.1250.1012
Related to the update, Microsoft has also recently confirmed that Windows Phone 8 devices will receive milestone generational updates on top of standard updates to fix issues or add features.
The confirmation comes after the previous generation of Windows Phone 7 devices was excluded from Windows Phone 8 owing to inherent hardware limitations and speculation previously centered on how Windows Phone 8 devices would be updated going forward following this year’s expected release of the next update in Microsoft Blue, which is expected to be a major update spanning desktop Windows, Windows RT and Windows Phone 8 as a cohesive update across all platforms.
Outside of the Verizon Lumia 822, Nokia has yet to confirm updates for other Windows Phone 8 variants of the Lumia series on other carriers, though those updates may be slated within the next few weeks.
