Internal Sprint documentation has confirmed that one of the last iDEN handsets, in the Motorola Titanium, will be launched on July 24th. The smartphone will launch for $149.99 after new 2 year agreement. The Titanium features Android 2.1, Éclair, QWERTY keyboard and 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display, 810G bodyshell certification for dust, shock, vibration, low pressure, solar radiation, high temperature and low temperature.
Additionally, full support for Nextel Direct Connect Services, including Direct Connect, Group Connect, International Direct Connect, DirectSend, Group Messaging and NextMail, fullAndroid Market access, full Google services, corporate email via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync) and personal email, 5.0 megapixel camera with camcorder, 4x zoom and flash, Wi-Fi b/g radio, Bluetooth, GPS support with A-GPS and dedicated transceiver as well as a microSD slot.
The Motorola Titanium follows the Motorola i1, which was the first iDEN Android handset. The i1 has been viewed with disdain by much of the Android community, it was one a handful of handsets, and the only Motorola device to not be updated to at least Android 1.6, Donut. Lacking Android 1.6 meant that the i1 could not access powerful Google services such as Google Maps Navigation, and struggles to run most modern apps.
