Following last month’s comments by T-Mobile representatives which initially confirmed that the Moto X would be supported by the carrier but not immediately launch through retail sales channels, definitive word has come from Motorola that it has launched the T-Mobile version in black today for $599.99 through its sales portal as an exclusive device, with the White color coming in the next few weeks. The T-Mobile version is not currently being sold through the Moto Maker customization portal at this time, as the service is still a timed AT&T exclusive.
This does mean that the T-Mobile Moto X will definitively not be carried by T-Mobile retail sales channels or third-party dealers, though the carrier still has yet to confirm future plans to offer the device as part of its Simple Choice service plans and Jump! early upgrade program. The $599.99 pricing is the only purchase option being offered by Motorola and no other purchase options are available for current T-Mobile subscribers.
In effect, Motorola is selling a locked, T-Mobile compatible and branded version of the phone for the same price as the unlocked version directly for current T-Mobile customers, but T-Mobile’s current support level suggests that it will wait on sales through Motorola’s own store to determine whether further support is warranted before committing to a full retail launch.
