Microsoft has announced that it has licensed the main processor architecture involved in the development of the ARM processor platform for an undisclosed amount. With the licensing of the architecture, Microsoft will be able to better optimize its current and future mobile platform lineup, while leaving the possibility open for future development of an internal ARM processor variant for its own devices, as Apple had done 2 years ago when it also became an ARM architecture licensee in order to develop what would ultimately become the A4 used in the current iPhone 4 and iPad.
