In an unsurprising move and confirming just how far the failure of the Kin hardware initiative reached into Microsoft, Mobile Communications Business CFO Tivanka Ellawala has confirmed that the software giant will instead focus solely on Windows Phone 7 instead of developing mobile hardware.
Speaking to investors in San Francisco, Ellawala stated that “We are in the software business and that is where our business will be focused,†while giving the aforementioned quote in response to rumors that Microsoft was once again developing mobile phone hardware after discontinuing Kin hardware sales and halting Kin platform development in order to merge it with Windows Phone 7 earlier this year.
