Following up on last weeks launch of MetroPCS coverage in Boston and New York City, MetroPCS has expanded native coverage in Texas to the city of Waco and surrounding suburbs.
New subscribers that add Unlimited Nationwide will also be able to take advantage of coverage in Cricket coverage areas around Temple, Killeen, Austin, San Antonio and Houston.
It should be emphasized that all new markets being launched are on the new AWS band and not the older PCS standard. MetroFlash is not offered in AWS markets and MetroFlash enabled devices will not roam in AWS markets.
Is this an AWS market?
All new markets going forward are AWS. Unlimited Nationwide requires AWS handsets.
Always have to point it out though… one of the first things MetroPCS gets flooded with in a new market, is if MetroFLASH will work in their area.
Unfortunately, the answer is pretty much no, since you need an AWS phone to begin with.
I been seeing a lot of CricKet billboards on the “L” in addition to being in and around the Chicagoland area, and actual store in Lombard. Are these related?
Only in the sense that Cricket is rolling out in those areas. Leap (Cricket’s parent) and Metro PCS signed a long-term roaming agreement last year.

With Alltel being intergrated into Verizon there is going to be a lot of opportunity for METRO PCS or Cricket to expand. The Verizon Alltel overlap will be sold off to someone
