MetroPCS has quietly added international roaming to its $10 monthly Mexico Calling add-on, with 200 voice minutes and 200 text messages now included in the add-on without access to data roaming. The roaming coverage is a part of a new agreement struck with the Mexican arm of Spain’s Telefonica Movistar wireless brand, with the coverage limited to 2G GSM access. This also makes MetroPCS one of the first virtual operators to offer some sort of international roaming support, as such access has been typically limited to postpaid contracts.
Update: The roaming add-on also includes unlimited incoming SMS when roaming in Mexico.
