Ahead of Mobile World Congress in Spain this week, LG has announced one of its next flagship devices in the Optimus Vu 4G Android hybrid smartphone/tablet device. The device features a 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio display at 1024×768 resolution with built-in support for a new included stylus which LG calls Rubberdium and will allow for handwriting recognition along with note taking.
With the LG Optimus Vu 4G aiming squarely at the Samsung Galaxy Note, the decision to use a portrait oriented display may prove to be the biggest difference for the device as the specifications reveal it to be yet another run of the mill Android tablet with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 32GB of internal storage and an 8.0 megapixel camera with LED flash and a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera. The Vu will launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread while LG has confirmed an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich that is expected to roll out soon after the device is launched. HDMI out and DLNA wireless media streaming are also supported.
Pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed outside of Korea, with it being the first launch market in March and more specific details are expected this week in Barcelona during MWC.
