LG has followed up its G Watch smartwatch with a new model in the G Watch R. The G Watch R features a more conventional round watch face along with updated specifications compared to the G Watch in a higher resolution plastic OLED display, which measures 1.3 inches across at 320 x 320 resolution and the OLED display is also noted for being highly visible, even in direct sunlight. The G Watch R is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage.
It also features an IP67 certification rating against water/dust, and can withstand up to 30 minutes in one meter of water. The watch also features a heart rate monitor, 9-axis gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, and barometer. It has a 410mAh battery but LG has not elaborated on battery life. The G Watch R can run all Android Wear apps, and will also include a number of LG-designed fitness apps when it ships in select markets early in the fourth quarter. Pricing and availability will be announced on a market basis closer to launch and the watch will make its public debut next month during the IFA trade show.
