LG and Samsung, Korean technology giants have teamed up to promote mobile digital TV standard. They claim that this collaboration will help to accelerate the ATSC standardization, benefiting both the customers and broadcasters.
The change is likely to be adopted by the ATSC for the North American market by the early 2009. The Mobile DTV in question will use “existing terrestrial digital TV broadcast bandwidth” while not effecting existing digital TV and will require a minimum of “broadcasting equipment investment”.
On the other hand Qualcomm, MediaFLO standard, currently dominates the North American mobile TV market. Important figures have been published after a study commissioned by the National Association of Broadcasters, that the US market for mobile DTV will reach 130 units by the end of 2012.
