Multiple reports have surfaced confirming the latest update to the HTC Sync sync application for Windows now allows for third-party app installs via the client to the HTC Aria via a new application installer option.
This follows the lack of such an option on AT&T’s other Android devices such as the Motorola Backflip (which led us to our first Do Not Buy review) and confirmation from Dell that the forthcoming Aero would also not support third-party application installation.
It remains to be seen whether the Aria signals a change of direction for AT&T in terms of Android and its desire for control over the application ecosystem, or if it is a one-time exception.
