When we originally reported on the PPC-6700, we basically called it a $649 software update. Though, in our commentary we also indicated that it could also be a device called “Apache” which would be in a refreshed form-factor. Today PhoneArena has confirmed the existance of Apache as a CDMA version of HTC’s Wizard.
Based on Sprint’s newfound willingness to update PPC-6600 devices, as well as the pending FCC approval of both Wizard and Apache, we are more confident now that the PPC-6700 is Apache, and will replace the PPC-6600 at the same retail price of $629. We still are taking a wait-and-see approach though, as prototype units being tested on DSL Reports, as we previously covered, were running Windows Mobile 2003SE, and not the Windows Mobile 5 that the Apache will carry.
