In yet another update to Google Voice following the last one that added cross-carrier MMS support, Google has announced that Verizon is the latest carrier to support MMS through Google Voice, which means that all of the major US carriers now support MMS through the service. This follows the last update whereby Verizon initially did not support MMS through Google Voice and MMS support has now been extended to Google Hangouts as well. Rather than sending an MMS through Hangouts and the message being turned into an email with a link attached, the message will now show up as a standard MMS message regardless of carrier. Finally, Google has confirmed that group MMS messaging will be added to Google Voice and Hangouts in the future.
Do you guys have any suggestions for migrating my SMS history from Voice to Hangouts? I have 3 years worth of messages in Google Voice that I don’t want to lose.
I already exported the messages via Takeout, but I can’t seem to import them. It seems very odd that Google, who’s so set on making things easier, doesn’t allow this.
