As a result of moving YouTube to a new version of its Data API for access to site data and features, Google has announced that YouTube apps on devices from 2012 and older will no longer be able to access YouTube. The move to the new version of the Data API was meant to enable new features across devices and platforms more quickly.
Devices affected by the move include 2012 and older iOS devices that are unable to update to iOS 7, the first and second generation of the Apple TV, the first and second generations of Google TV, and smart TVs/Blu-Ray players manufactured before 2013 such as those manufactured by Panasonic and Sony, along with other manufacturers. Google is suggesting alternative methods for those affected, such as mobile site access through web browsers, if available.
