Google has launched a new mobile beta of their local service for use with Java phones. The program is available in both MIDP 1.0 and MIDP 2.0 versions, and is compatible with most Java-enabled phones with AT&T Wireless, Cingular, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The application is not signed for Nextel phones, savvy users may be able to upload the application over data cable. Google has released versions specialized for many phones, as well as generic versions for phones they do not provide specific support for.
Google Local Mobile will enable better use of Google Local and Google Maps from the cell phone. It does not, however, take advantage of gpsOne or A-GPS in CDMA/UMTS phones. You can find it at the new Google Local for Mobile web site.
