After weeks of leaks and anticipation, Google has formally announced the December 17th launch of the successor to the Nexus One in the Nexus S along with its own dedicated page, which will introduce Android Gingerbread and the availability of NFC support in the US.
Hardware specifications for the Nexus S consist of a 4.0 inch WVGA resolution display, triband HSPA with T-Mobile 3G support, 5.0 megapixel main camera with flash and video recorder, NFC hardware, 16GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM and will be available on T-Mobile. Other hardware of note includes a gyroscope, integrated VoIP support, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread along with a 1GHz Cortex A8-based Hummingbird processor.
Availability is set for December 17th via Best Buy, BestBuy.com and Best Buy Mobile locations with pricing yet to be confirmed.
Update: Pricing for the phone is set at $529.99 unlocked or $199.99 after a new 2 year agreement with T-Mobile. Â If purchasing the device unlocked, it’s important to note that the device only supports 1700 MHz 3G access for T-Mobile and select Canadian carriers, with international 3G access on the 900/2100 bands.
This phone looks good. I hope other gingerbread updates will start coming up, like for the epic and evo. Too bad this phone isnt for sprint. I still wish I could use the original nexxus. that phone still looks awesome.
