FreedomPop Officially Adds More Phones to BYOSD List After Botched Initial Launch

By Humberto Saabedra on February 13, 2014

FreedomPop logoAfter weeks of waiting, FreedomPop has finally added more phones to its BYOSD list for activation on its free VoIP/data plan. The plan offers 200 minutes of voice service and 500MB of data access per month with optional paid upgrades. As of yesterday, the following Sprint phones can now be activated:

  • Samsung Galaxy S II
  • Samsung Epic 4G
  • HTC Evo 3D
  • Samsung Nexus S
  • Motorola Photon 4G
  • HTC Evo Shift
  • HTC Evo Design

While this is a slightly different list than the one FreedomPop announced when it launched the service last November, it also reflects the steps the company took in the wake of the botched initial launch in order to get the service to work.Until recently the only phones that worked reliably under the BYOSD program were the HTC EVO 4G, HTC Evo Design and Epic 4G Touch, with every other phone in the first list being rejected. FreedomPop’s paid plans for phones are listed below:

  • $7.99/month – 500 Voice Minutes, Unlimited Texts and 500 MB of 3G or 4G data
  • $10.99/month – Unlimited Voice Minutes, Unlimited Texts and 500 MB of 3G or 4G data

For an extra $9.99/month you can upgrade the above plans including the free plan to 1 GB of data per month with 1¢/MB overage data. Visual Voicemail is also available as a $2.49/month add-on.
