Following up on a previous report, Walmart has officially announced the forthcoming launch of the iPhone on its StraightTalk MVNO this weekend on Friday, January 11th. As expected, pricing for the respective models is fixed at $449 for the 8GB iPhone 4 and $649 for the 16GB iPhone 5. Both black and white versions of each model will be made available for purchase with the financing offers being made available as well.
Walmart will offer a special financing deal on the purchase of the phone for $25 a month with a Walmart Credit Card or Walmart Discover Card on these select models. Pricing for the Straight Talk no-contract plans for the iPhone and smartphones include the following:
- $45 – No Contract Monthly Plan with Unlimited Nationwide Talk, Text, and Data.
- $60 – No Contract Monthly Plan with Unlimited Nationwide Talk, Text, and Data PLUS Unlimited International Calling to more than 1,000 destinations in Mexico, Canada, India, and in other countries.
The phones will be made available for purchase in-store and online via StraightTalk and Walmart.com with the financing deal being exclusive to Walmart stores nationwide. StraightTalk’s various social media profiles have yet to officially confirm and mention the press release despite teasing the news since last Friday.
what is the difference between the data ($45 plan) and data plus ($60 plan) ?
also I understand the iPhone 4 will run on verizon 3G network, but since the iPhone 5 will be on ATT what network will be running on? 4G or LTE ?
The difference between plans is the addition of international calling on the $60 plan. Also, TracFone has yet to officially disclose what networks both phones will run on, but the tutorials for each have confirmed that neither model is using GSM, but CDMA due to the references to the MEID serial number used by CDMA phones and devices.
What many are also waiting on in that case is which CDMA network each phone is running on, with many speculating Sprint and more desiring both models be powered by Verizon’s network. We’ll know for sure once the phones are officially released and stocked on Friday.
