eBay Daily Deals is hosting the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in GSM form for $479.99 in both white, and black variants. Shipping is free.
This version of the Galaxy Nexus is not compatible with Verizon or Sprint’s upcoming LTE networks, but will work with HSPA+ on both AT&T and T-Mobile. Its pentaband GSM/UMTS/HSPA+ radio is one of the few sold in the United States that allows compatibility with both network’s 3G/”4G” HSPA+ signals. It does not, however, support AT&T’s newer 4G LTE network.
The Galaxy Nexus is currently Google’s named superphone, branded in partnership between Google and Samsung. While this is the lowest pricing we’ve seen, it’s not unexpected. Rival LTE-enabled smartphones from LG, Samsung, and HTC all are surpassing Galaxy Nexus. Google and Samsung have announced an LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus to be offered on Sprint’s upcoming LTE network, but there has not been any signals pointing to a successor in the Nexus family of superphones. Galaxy Nexus is the third generation of Nexus, following the Nexus One by HTC, and Nexus S by Samsung.
Most information points to Google offering a Nexus line of tablets, possibly as early as May, in partnership with ASUS.
In related news, Samsung has begun offering free extended batteries for the Galaxy Nexus via mail-in rebate. This comes as the LTE version on Verizon faces criticism similar to other LTE smartphones on the network; namely, poor battery life.
Unlike the free extended battery offer, the deal from eBay Daily Deals is expected to expire at midnight. The phone typically has a no-contract MSRP of $599.99.
