The little-known Samsung Galaxy Ace is up for sale at $199.99 for today only. The phone features an 800MHz processor, quadband GSM with support for AT&T 3G, 3.5 inch Gorilla Glass fronted display at HVGA resolution, Android 2.2, Wi-Fi radio and 5.0 megapixel camera with video recorder. The phone is also sold with a 1 year warranty from Samsung.
The Galaxy Ace was intended to be an counterpart to the Galaxy Prevail on Boost Mobile, with some higher-end features like Gorilla Glass added to justify the contract requirements on AT&T. However, AT&T passed on the device late in the development cycle, leaving Samsung to sell it in other markets such as Australia. Now, it appears, overstock of the Galaxy Ace has made its way to the United States in the form of aftermarket sales and MVNO sales.
Notable in terms of limitations is the lack of Android 2.3, Gingerbread. While Samsung has committed to updating the Galaxy S to Gingerbread, that guarantee does not extend to non-S Galaxy variants. As such, we don’t suggest expecting additional firmware updates for this largely-abandoned device.
