Amazon.com is offering, today only, a limited $50 off coupon code that drops the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch to $249. Coupon code FIREHD89 works with both Wi-Fi and LTE-enabled Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch models.
This is the largest discount we’ve seen for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch model, the only discount that came close on Kindle Fire HD was a $30 gift card offered by Best Buy on Black Friday.
While Amazon is the manufacturer of Kindle Fire, they caution you should act fast to lock in this discount, the quantity of coupon redemptions is limited – though Amazon won’t say to how many. Regardless, the coupon code will expire at midnight tonight.
Kindle Fire remains the most popular Android tablet, despite not being branded as Android compatible. The new Kindle Fire HD 7-inch and 8.9-inch models have resparked its popularity, with Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich serving as the core operating system. In addition, Amazon’s partnership with AT&T has offered a unique, $50/year 4G LTE data plan that offers 250 MB of data per month, for 12 months. That translates to about $4/month for basic data plans, which AT&T still charges some customers significantly higher for.
The timing of this deal is almost certainly tied, at least in part, to the so-called Green Monday. The Monday two weeks before Christmas is statistically a high day for commerce, as shoppers begin to finalize their Christmas gift-giving plans.
